Margaret DeSelle of Deville, Louisiana, was referred to The Bonati Spine Institute by a former patient who had had a successful surgery. She was experiencing pain from her hip down to her ankle. She attributed it to “… lifting all those years and everyday life.” She suffered a long time with chiropractic manipulation and physical therapy not providing any relief. She would take a pain pill before starting work and a pain pill after work. Margaret, however, knew that painkillers were not a lasting solution to her pain. She could not enjoy family life, especially running and shopping with her daughter Ashley.

Gary Littrel was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for his heroics during the Vietnam War. It was in that war that Gary first injured his back. Although the pain eventually subsided it reappeared while Gary was training in Panama. His pain placed him in traction for two weeks. Over the next 17 years the pain in Gary’s hip grew progressively worse and over the last two years forced him to become housebound. On a bad day Gary would spend all of his time confined to a reclining chair. Gary felt guilty and ashamed that he could not help his wife do the chores that he did previously.

John Hunter, 53, of Houston, Texas, has played baseball since he was a young man. He suffered a car accident which fractured vertebrae in his lower back and ruptured the intervertebral discs. John stated “… I thought my life was over the pain was so bad. I couldn’t walk, couldn’t stand”. He had a highly invasive “open” spine surgery at a different facility through an incision so large that it took 27 staples to close it. Seven days after the procedure his pain returned, this time worse than before.
